Reality Show Research
Task: One Brand Knew's big clients is E! (the entertainment network), and our E! team asked me to conduct some competitive Analysis on shows that E! shows get compared to.
Process: I examined their different social media accounts, and their websites, with a specific focus on how they get followers to tune in and watch episodes. After a few weeks of souring twitter, and learning about shows I'd never heard of before, I pieced together this presentation, revealing what the other big names in Reality TV do to promote their shows on social.
Results: I noticed other networks didn't have social media accounts for specific shows, and wondered why. I then saw that typically, the cast members of the shows were promoting their own lives, and their shows in conjunction on their own social media accounts. I checked to see how many followers these cast members had, and the numbers were astonishing. Huge reality stars like Lisa Vanderpump, have millions of followers. Not only that, but they have hundreds of thousands more followers than any reality show network account.
It became clear that fans want to feel connected to the people that they see on the show, not the network providing it. And looking at the content these stars came out with affirmed the numbers.
